<text>The Buckley Deer Family is a set of Calico Critters figurines produced by Epoch, known for their flocked texture, miniature clothing, and emphasis on gentle woodland storytelling. Originally released in Japan in 2009 and later in the United States in 2012, the family reflects the franchise’s focus on nurturing play and domestic narratives. These figures serve as material culture objects that highlight how toys communicate cultural values related to family life, childhood, imagination, and collectibility.

ID: The Buckley Deer Family consists of three flocked deer figurines made of molded plastic covered in a velvety material. All share tan-brown bodies, rounded heads, black circular eyes, and upright ears with pale heart-shaped markings inside. Their limbs are simply sculpted, consistent with Calico Critters/Sylvanian Families design conventions.

The mother deer (adult, 9 cm) is the tallest. She wears a sleeveless dress with a white background and blue-and-green floral pattern, featuring a fitted bodice and gathered skirt.

The teen deer (7 cm) is slightly smaller and wears a light blue dress with small green stems and pink flowers, trimmed with white lace along the straps and hem.

The toddler/child deer (5 cm) is the smallest and is dressed in a light blue one-piece romper with short legs and a delicate white lace collar.

Despite size differences, the figures share a coordinated color palette, flocked texture, and unified aesthetic typical of the Buckley Deer Family set.

<text>This is an advertisement for Lablache Face Powder, a Ben Levy Company product, a French perfumery from Boston, Massachusetts, produced in the early 20th century. The ad is decorated with floral borders and a woman's profile portrait; it projects elegance and sophistication in beauty advertising during this time. In addition to the skin benefits of the product's application, "smooth, velvety skin" and its ability to protect from sunburn, the ad conveys the growing obsession with beauty products at this time, and the promotion of women's complexions as a sign of social distinction. Ads like this would have appeared in magazines published in the early 1900s, when face powders were sold as mass-produced products at a time when beauty standards around women's appearance underwent major changes.

ID: The picture is an antique black and white advertisement. The border spanning the top and sides is decorative and includes a vine and rose design. This particular ad features a circular portrait of a woman with a high and full hairstyle, looking just to the right. The bold word "LABLACHE," stretches across the lower half of the ad, and curves and vines decorate some of the letters. The ad also says "Face Powder" under the word "Lablanche" in a smaller font, and blocks of text surround both.

<text>This wooden poker chip box has features of a felt-lined lid and slots to organize the white, black, and red plastic poker chips. The chips reflect the lightweight and effective style common in most late 20th century home poker sets, before the heavier clay compound chips became more accessible. Poker chip cases like this grew in popularity as card games remained a popular American family activity throughout the late 1900s. Its durable construction and classic design connect everyday gameplay to the broader history of home entertainment during that period.

ID: The object is a rectangular wooden poker chip box with a hinged lid that opens upward. The inside of the lid is lined with dark green felt, covering the entire interior surface. Below the lid, the base of the box is divided into four vertical compartments, each filled with a column of 25 uniformly sized, flat plastic poker chips. From left to right, the chips are red, black, white, and white, with each stack neatly organized and reaching close to the top edge of its compartment.

Lucky Strike exposes ultraviolet rays that expels certain harsh irritants that is shown in all raw tobacco products. Lucky Strike is a U.S. cigarette brand recognized for its red, white, and green package and the background it has in American tobacco history. Lucky Strike was started in the late 1800s but was a well-established brand through much of the 20th century primarily due to the slogan "It's Toasted," indicating that, when Lucky Strike cigars are manufactured, the tobacco inside is heat-cured instead of sun-dried.

ID: A woman is pointing towards her throat to symbolize that people should protect their Adam's apple and esophagus. Lucky strike shows they are a safe option because they don't irritate the throat at all and come in the package already heated to get rid of irritants and harsh chemicals that other tobacco products display. The box of the cigarettes is dark green with a lucky strike logo in bolded red with words bolded black saying lucky strike.

<text>This motive magazine article from the lesbian/feminist issue (Vol. 32 No. 1 1972) tells a comical take on an early transition transgender woman named Edward with her psychiatrist Dr. Knox. During the encounter Edward tells of troubles with bathrooms and the dangers she faced while Dr. Knox continues to pathologize her by drawing up an absurd transition plan including removing 8 inches of her legs to shorten her and hormones to meet the female standard of that year of a 56 inch cup size and a 12 and 1/2 inch waist.

While this story is satirical it does directly highlight many of the issues transgender women sadly still face in the medical world today. The bathroom situation has not improved drastically from the comical description in the beginning of the article and the proving yourself to your psychiatrist situation is almost identical.

ID: Two pages of an article from a 1972 lesbian/feminist issue of motive magazine. The left hand side of the fold has a line drawing depicting Edward the Dyke lying on her side propped up by her left elbow drawn by Lynda Koolish from Berkeley and the beginning paragraphs of the satirical short story. The right side of the fold contains the remaining story and a drawing of Edward standing with her hands in her pockets and head sunken down towards her shoulders drawn by Nancy Adair from Albuquerque. The story was condensed and reprinted from Lesbians Speak Out, 1971.

<text>This book explains both the history of the American flag and how to properly display it. The book was released in 1968 and coincided with a period of heightened national focus on patriotism, especially during the Vietnam War. It was created for the purpose of educating Americans, especially Marines, on how to properly handle and display the American flag. It was handed out in Arlington and served both as a ceremonial and patriotic purpose, reinforcing national identity and military tradition. The Marine Corps used it to teach service members, ensuring uniformity and respect. It promoted awareness of flag etiquette, history, and symbolism to the public, aligning with broader patriotic campaigns of the time. Finally, the book provided instructions for flag use in official events, memorials, and daily life, helping maintain the flag’s dignity in both the military and civilian life. The book was a patriotic and instructional tool designed to preserve the flag’s meaning, teach correct usage, and instill the respect it deserves.

ID: Flag photo one is the book cover, and it features a colorful format of multiple soldiers, wearing blue coats and white hats, marching while one carries a rifle, one carries a red flag with the words “Marine Corps” on it, and one carries the American flag. In the middle ground, there is a crowd of people watching the soldier’s march. In the background, there is green land, blue sky, and some orange depicting a sunrise, and on the cover is the title of the book, How to Respect and Display our Flag. Flag photo two, pages two and three, goes on to explain what the stars and strips of our flag represent, stating that, “the star is a symbol of the heavens and the divine goal to which man has aspired from time immemorial: the stripe is symbolic of the rays of light emanating from the sun,” (Percy Webb). Flag photo three, pages eight and nine, states how whenever a new state joins the Union; a new star is added to the blue part of the flag as of April 4th, 1818. It is also said that the flag became a symbol of both sovereignty and Liberty. Flag photo four, pages sixteen and seventeen, then explains how on June 12, 1961, the American flag is to be flown 24 hours a day at the Marine Corps Memorial in Arlington, Virginia. It serves as a memorial to the Iwo Jima campaign, one of the most significant battles of WWII, and “points out that the American flag… …is a symbol of courage and valor of the American fighting forces in war,” (Percy Webb). Finally, flag photos five and six, pages twenty-six – twenty-nine, shows how to display the flag during certain conditions such as, when it is displayed over the middle of a street it should be suspended vertically with the blue facing north, when it is displayed from an angled staff the blue should go to the peak of the staff, when it is carried with other flags it should be on the marching right, and when it is used to cover a casket the blue should be at the head and over the left shoulder.

<text>The article discusses how fishing has become increasingly difficult because of two major problems, deforestation and pollution. The article describes that these problems are increasing the temperature of rivers and lakes in the Middle West water table and causing the environment to be unlivable for trout. The author points out that while discussion of repopulating rivers and lakes takes place, the main issue is not being addressed, which is, “what use to plant fish in streams and lakes, if water conditions are untenable?” (Smith). He tells a story about the river he fished at when he was younger and how the water has become untenable because of deforestation. He proposes an effort called the reforestation program. This effort essentially takes trees from land that is not used for agriculture, and places them in “barrens” of Wisconsin, Michigan and Minnesota. The reason for this, as described by the author, is because without forests and swamps our water supply with become straitened.

ID: Black and white format of a nature scene that shows trees, a man, and a river. In the foreground, there is a man standing on a rock, with his back turned to the camera, in front of the river holding a fishing pole and casting a line. In the middle ground, there is a small river section that reflects light off the water, that also has boulders lining the shore. In the background, there are very full shrubs and trees that stand on the downside of the slope that are in front of the fisherman.
