<text>This artifact consists of four original tickets from the 2010 FIFA World Cup along with an official ticket guide booklet. The tickets are for a Group E match between the Netherlands and Japan, representing entry into one of the most historically significant sporting events, as it was the first World Cup held on the African continent. Beyond their practical use, these tickets symbolize a moment of unity, national pride, and global recognition for South Africa following the end of apartheid. As someone originally from South Africa, this artifact holds deeper cultural meaning, reflecting not only a global event but also a defining moment in the country’s modern identity. The accompanying ticket guide provides insight into how the event was organized and experienced by fans.

ID:
The artifact includes four rectangular paper tickets arranged in a slightly overlapping formation on a flat surface. Each ticket is predominantly yellow with a gradient background and features a bold black silhouette of a soccer player kicking a ball, surrounded by curved streaks of red, green, and yellow, reflecting the colors associated with South African identity. Printed text on the tickets includes match information such as “Netherlands vs Japan,” “Match 25,” and detailed seating information including section, row, and seat numbers. Along the right edge of each ticket is a vertically printed barcode used for entry scanning. Behind the tickets is a red and orange booklet labeled “2010 FIFA World Cup South Africa Official Ticket Guide,” decorated with flowing graphic lines and the official FIFA World Cup logo. Positioned next to the booklet is a small plush figure of Zakumi, the official World Cup mascot, characterized by its yellow body, green hair, and soccer-themed design.

<text>This artifact consists of black plastic Mickey Mouse-style ears on a headband with a stitched "Walt Disney World" embroidered patch. A widely recognized souvenir and symbol of Disney theme park culture, it functions as both a wearable keepsake and identity marker. The Mickey ear hat originated in the 1950s with The Mickey Mouse Club, where on-screen Mouseketeers established the ears as a Disney symbol. Designed by Roy Williams and first sold at Disneyland in 1955, they evolved across decades: from television merchandise (1950s–70s) to standard park souvenir (1980s–90s) to fashion accessory and collectible (2010s onward). The object illustrates how commercial products become enduring cultural symbols tied to memory, experience, and consumer identity.

ID:
A pair of black circular plastic ears mounted on a flexible headband. Between the ears is a rectangular embroidered fabric patch reading “Walt Disney World” in multicolored stitching. The ears are smooth, glossy, and symmetrical, designed to resemble the head of Mickey Mouse. The headband is lightweight and curved to fit comfortably on the head, making the object wearable. The overall design is intended for public display as a souvenir accessory and visual marker of Disney park participation. </text>

<text>The DS is a gaming console that was made by the company Nintendo. It was popularized for its inclusive nature and its ability to be easily transported to play with others. With many titles like the Pokémon, Mario and Ace Attorney frranchies being the most popular. The DS was unique for its double screen design, allowing for a more immerisve gaming experience than handheld consoles had previously allowed for. The Nintendo DS also allows for backwards compatibility, or in other words, newer models can run games made for previous models of the DS. This lets users who have owned older generations of the console upgrade to a newer version, while keeping their favorite games from the older version without having to restart them or buy them again. This furthers the inclusive nature of the DS by allowing for a less financially stressful experience overall.

On the back, it has a cartridge slot for games, an SD slot for more storage, and a slot to keep a DS Stylus.

<text>The Buckley Deer Family is a set of Calico Critters figurines produced by Epoch, known for their flocked texture, miniature clothing, and emphasis on gentle woodland storytelling. Originally released in Japan in 2009 and later in the United States in 2012, the family reflects the franchise’s focus on nurturing play and domestic narratives. These figures serve as material culture objects that highlight how toys communicate cultural values related to family life, childhood, imagination, and collectibility.

ID: The Buckley Deer Family consists of three flocked deer figurines made of molded plastic covered in a velvety material. All share tan-brown bodies, rounded heads, black circular eyes, and upright ears with pale heart-shaped markings inside. Their limbs are simply sculpted, consistent with Calico Critters/Sylvanian Families design conventions.

The mother deer (adult, 9 cm) is the tallest. She wears a sleeveless dress with a white background and blue-and-green floral pattern, featuring a fitted bodice and gathered skirt.

The teen deer (7 cm) is slightly smaller and wears a light blue dress with small green stems and pink flowers, trimmed with white lace along the straps and hem.

The toddler/child deer (5 cm) is the smallest and is dressed in a light blue one-piece romper with short legs and a delicate white lace collar.

Despite size differences, the figures share a coordinated color palette, flocked texture, and unified aesthetic typical of the Buckley Deer Family set.

The area’s open design allows an abundance of sunlight to pour in visually referencing Superman’s dependence on solar energy for strength, and the roller coaster tracks simulate a flight path like one superman may take.

<text>This artifact is a digital image set of a high-resolution 1:64 scale model of the Nissan Skyline GT-R R34. The model shows the outline and structure of the vehicle, right down to the spoiler and headlights, even the wheels. This scale model presents itself in a commonality of car collector worlds, as this is a piece of culture dedicated to a significant performance car of Japanese origin. Models like these are used for display purposes and photography, as well as documentation of car culture, which shows how much of an impact JDM cars have had in films and gaming, to more globalized, online communities.

ID: A high-resolution scaled model image of a Nissan Skyline GT-R R34. Low and wide body with rounded front, rounded hood, rectangular headlights, and long back and raised spoiler. High metallic silver paint job with no flaws in the paint and minuscule separation in the panels. Slightly detailed rims with 5 spokes and 1/2 spoke detail of the brake assembly, windows tinted black and reflective. Neutral and flat background for image purposes, as this is a still image to get on display. Palm-sized with properly proportioned elements, all exterior with scaled proportions, no exaggeration or reduction of reality, all without imperfections at this size.

<text> A Nintendo 3DS video game console composed of dual LCD screens and an assortment of membrane switches as well as a thumbstick to control various games. The console featured a headphone jack, various sliders that would control volume and 3D effects, along with a switch that gave access to local Wi-Fi and the Internet. Additionally it included a game cartridge slot on its back that was backwards compatible with previous DS games. Furthermore, the bottom LCD screen also acted as a touchpad and the console itself could utilize its camera and microphone to use Augmented Reality in many of its games. Since its initial conception, it has become a staple of the mobile gaming industry and a direct inspiration for many more Nintendo products.

This card game was the original basis for the game “Pit” which was also created in 1904. Lettering on the card box reveals descriptions of the game centered around the stock exchange and is meant to be played like any other card game. The cards from the box describe properties of railroads in major cities selling for set prices, that can be bought or traded for the player’s advantage.

ID: An orange and black colored card game box with black elaborate scroll on the front and back describing, “The Greatest of All Games Fun… Fun from start to Finish… Can you Corner the Burlesque Stock Market without the fatal telegram?” The face-up cards of the game have ornate font describing railroads of states that the players can buy, “NY Central R.R Stock $200, Capital Stock $850,000,000”. Also pictured are instructions of the game and background from where the idea for the game came from.

<text>This wooden poker chip box has features of a felt-lined lid and slots to organize the white, black, and red plastic poker chips. The chips reflect the lightweight and effective style common in most late 20th century home poker sets, before the heavier clay compound chips became more accessible. Poker chip cases like this grew in popularity as card games remained a popular American family activity throughout the late 1900s. Its durable construction and classic design connect everyday gameplay to the broader history of home entertainment during that period.

ID: The object is a rectangular wooden poker chip box with a hinged lid that opens upward. The inside of the lid is lined with dark green felt, covering the entire interior surface. Below the lid, the base of the box is divided into four vertical compartments, each filled with a column of 25 uniformly sized, flat plastic poker chips. From left to right, the chips are red, black, white, and white, with each stack neatly organized and reaching close to the top edge of its compartment.

<text>Phase 10 is a "rummy” style card game where you complete ten phases in sequence. Each phase uses sets, runs, or color groups, and you can advance only when you finish your current phase. The game was made after Kenneth R Johnson played rummy with friends and wanted a version with clearer goals each round in 1982 and grew fast through regional sales. Early success came from word of mouth in Midwestern stores, which pushed it into national toy catalogs

ID: (1) A blue box with the Phase 10 logo. The front shows the standard artwork. A short description on the box explains the goal of completing phases with numbered cards, colored sets, and runs. (2) A line of cards from left to right. A blue 1 card, a wild card, a yellow 4 card, a red 3 card, a green 9 card, and a skip card. Each card shows clear color bands and large numbers for quick sorting. (3) The reverse side of a card displays the Phase 10 logo. The design shows a small fan of colored cards behind the logo. (4) A group of cards face down on a table with a discard pile beside them. The layout looks like a game in progress with several played cards visible in the discard pile. (5) A fan of cards above the box from right to left. A wild card, a blue 4 card, a yellow 12 card, a green 2 card, and a red 11 card.
